Julie’s background gives her the insight to provide big-picture thinking, especially in uncertain times of change in heavily regulated industries.

Valuable In-House Perspective on Compliance and Crisis

 

Julie served as senior counsel at Amgen supporting the global development teams for both marketed and investigational oncology products, including advising on sales and marketing, and managing reimbursement strategies for Aranesp® Oncology after receiving an FDA black-box warning and an adverse National Coverage Determination from CMS. While supporting the Aranesp® Oncology team through this crisis, Julie educated clients on the procedures and consequences of Congressional investigations and supported lobbying activities by advising staff in Amgen’s Global Government Affairs department. She also assisted the corporate litigation group on antitrust and state consumer fraud cases and responded to government subpoenas. As a legal advisor for Amgen’s Worldwide Business Ethics and Compliance Program, Julie worked on development of policies and procedures, and led an external, privileged audit of the compliance organization.

Trusted Outside Counsel in Transactions and Before Regulatory Bodies

 

Julie began her legal career at global law firm Sidley Austin, with the litigation group in the Los Angeles office. With a desire to become more integrated into the firm’s life sciences group, she made the move to the Washington, D.C. office. Julie represented physician groups, healthcare systems, hospitals, academic centers, pharmaceutical/biotech companies and dietary supplement manufacturers on matters involving several regulatory agencies, including the FDA, FTC, CMS, CDC and OIG. She also assisted clients on matters related to physician self-referral, privacy and state pharmaceutical laws, as well as internal and government investigations.

 

She has advised on healthcare corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, and counseled senior leadership teams on a wide mix of legal and operational issues, and compliance matters. Julie worked closely with national healthcare providers, including medical groups and a nonprofit cancer center, and emerging and established life sciences companies.

In addition to her experience as counsel, Julie also worked as a legal analyst for Bloomberg in Beijing, China, for almost two years, where she wrote about legal trends and developments for FDA-regulated companies.
