Daron Watts is a Washington-based attorney, lobbyist, and strategic advisor who counsels clients at the intersection of law, public policy, and politics. He advises companies, trade associations, nonprofit organizations, and institutions facing complex challenges that involve government regulation, legislative proposals, investigations, and crisis management, often across multiple branches of government and jurisdictions at once.
More Than Two Decades of Progressive Leadership with a Premier International Law Firm
Before founding The Watts Group, Daron practiced for more than two decades at Sidley, a top global law firm. He began his career in Los Angeles as a litigator, then expanded his practice to include government regulation and public policy, with emphasis on life sciences and emerging technology. In 2010, he relocated to Washington, D.C. to found and co-lead Sidley's Government Strategies practice, where he built and managed multidisciplinary teams to help clients navigate high‑stakes issues before Congress, federal agencies, and global regulatory centers.

General Counsel for Corporate, Non-Profit and Trade Association Clients
Daron's practice frequently requires coordinating strategies across legislative, regulatory, litigation, and public‑affairs fronts. He has served as outside general counsel to corporate, trade association and non-profit clients, helping them succeed in all three branches of government and work with key stakeholders. That experience gives him a boardroom‑level view of risk, opportunity, and institutional dynamics and informs his ability to design practical, durable strategies for clients operating in politically sensitive or rapidly changing environments.

Strategies Across Branches and Levels of Government

Daron has extensive experience with government regulation, public policy and international disputes. He has advised clients and allies —including foreign governments and international businesses—on disputes involving international commerce and trade regulation, tariffs and related government investigations, as well as multijurisdictional advocacy around controversial government regulation and policy. He also helps clients anticipate and manage emerging and evolving legal and policy frameworks in the United States, the European Union and other international regulatory centers, including efforts to harmonize standards and align regulatory approaches across global markets.

In addition to his core regulatory and public‑policy work, Daron advises on equity and justice issues, including U.S. and international initiatives that call for integration of legal and policy analysis, political judgment, and coalition‑building. These efforts include projects exploring how cross‑border regulatory tools and multilateral mechanisms can be used to support accountability and compensation for victims of conflict and other serious harms.
PROFESSIONAL AND COMMUNITY ACTIVITY
Daron is active on the Board of the University of Southern California’s Gould School of Law. He also sits on the Board of the Congressional Black Caucus Political Action Committee (CBC PAC).
Daron is dedicated to social impact issues, including patients’ rights and access to health for vulnerable and underserved populations, protecting the right of voters to participate in our political system, criminal justice reform and accountability for victims of conflict and other serious harms. His professional work reflects a distinctive combination of legal training, strategic advocacy, and experience leading complex, multi‑stakeholder initiatives in Washington and around the world.
